Sarner conceived the masterplan design for Valhalla, the £15 million dark, indoor ride attraction at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
This Viking-themed attraction was to become a landmark ride, combining a white-knuckle flume with the theatrical dynamics of audio visual sequences to add story to the experience.
Throughout Valhalla, riders experience the elements – with fire, water, snow, thunder and lightning as temperature extremes range from 20°C to plus 40°C. Special effect requirements included scenic theming, fire and ice, wind and rain, mechanical and lighting.
In practical terms, this ride is a huge feat of engineering; the water flume recycles more than 100,000 gallons of water a minute which is used to propel up to 2,000 riders per hour. Approximately 35,000 cubic feet of gas an hour is used to provide the flame effects.
Valhalla also holds the title of the world’s largest indoor ride.
