Sarner was appointed by the Governor of Riyadh Region as the lead designer and consultant for a permanent exhibition at The King Salman Science Oasis, a major science museum for Riyadh. The new futuristic attraction is a unique interactive experience, combining science, culture, nature, commerce and faith. Showcasing outstanding creativity and technology, the museum immerses visitors in an audio-visual landscape, taking them on a journey from the birth of technology to its presence in our everyday lives and beyond.

Client's brief

Promoting the evolution from a petrochemical producing to a knowledge society is a top priority in Saudi Arabia. The King Salman Science Oasis in Riyadh is a key pillar in this national mission, and is one of the most engaging and innovative museums in the region. King Salman Science Oasis aims to get visitors excited about the power of science and show the younger audience how studying science can lead to a fulfilling and exciting career.

Artificial Intelligence

Today robots are no longer in the realms of sci-fi but with us in our everyday lives. Through touch tables connected to large screens on the wall, visitors can make their own personal journeys of discovery to understand what AI is and its role in our lives now and into the future. Three large robots on screens interact with the visitors and follow their movements. This section of the exhibition explores what these huge tech advances might mean for the future of humanity, whilst paying homage to the scientific innovators of the Golden Age of Islam.

Biotechnology

Exhibits in the Biotechnology zone focus on how technology may be transforming the future of our species and changing the course of evolution. A widescreen experiential film sits at the heart of a beautifully crafted immersive experience, enhanced by infinity mirrors and DNA double-helixes made from LED strands. The three-minute experience gives an overview of DNA and how advancements in technology can use it to help humanity. The audience is taken on a breathtaking journey, from the dawn of evolution to the infinite possibilities that biotechnology offers to improve life on Earth.

The Future of Technology

The Future of Technology zone features an unusual canvas, a 4sqm holographic projection Cube. This gives visitors a captivating glimpse of what the future of technology might hold across four key areas: Nanotechnology, Energy, Medicine & Ageing, Transport & Communications. A thrilling object display provides examples of fascinating real-life scientific research in these areas. Nanobots viewed via a microscope, nuclear batteries made out of synthetic diamonds, a 3D printed heart, and a hoverboard all act as stimuli to fire imaginations and explore the new frontiers of science and technology.
